Yearly G15

Every so often I take a break from serious chess and play some G15. Usually 5 15 to have some time delay. It drops my rating more than 100 points but it's a fun break. Returned to tactics this week, after laying off the puzzles for over a month. Little rusty but it's amazing how much of it sticks.

when i get like that, i take a slightly different approach...

i started back after 25,000 tactics since march, but no real over the board play (for me, on-line play), and was SO RUSTY that when i came back to play, lost like eight games in a row. but at a certain point, i knew that my rating would re-establish itself, find a true floor, and that when i won or started winning, how good it would feel.

i was injured at my job weeks ago, so had to take 12 days off (paid), and wipped out 500 games, many of them bullet. that did the trick.

but don't 'quit' (i feel this way, too, sometimes!!!) but the resolution is the willingness to learn. i call it, taking a good beating.

lastly, i am proud of my negative win/loss ratio: recent rapid games 22w/42l/2d. what does this mean? that i have been courageous in seeking out--on average--constant challenge and not duck a good fight if not loses. but the wins against elo++ are so sweet!

take care, dk

Hi dk! Sorry for being so lax. BDK contacted too. I actually have stuff to say about chess but haven't made the effort to post it yet. Hectic year. I promise to get it done this weekend!

As a bonus, I'll post a comment on your blog on a spiritual book I read over the last two weeks.
