Is Blitz beneficial?

Wanted to take a quick poll. Do you play blitz? Do you think it helps your chess at all? Since joining ICC I haven't played a rated blitz game with my account. Lately I've been considering playing some blitz every day, especially when I don't have time to play a full 30 30 game.

Blitz is beneficial for. . .blitz!

Seriously, you can use it to practice some openings, but you're not going to gain much else from blitz except blitz experience.

Hard work, long hours and more hard work.

These are the path the true Jedi Master. . .er wait. . oh, never mind [grin]

Blitz is beneficial to see if you've got your openings down.

I know you mostly play postal chess but do you blitz too?

It is fun. It is great, especially, for learning the ins and outs of my opening repertoire.

Yes PS, i blitz as well. While i might have time to play a full 30 30 game, i rather play 3, 4 or 5 games in the same amount of time. 10 minutes per game.

Blitz is beneficial on a number of levels. It helps you work on your openings, hones your tactics, and gives you exposure to wide range of playing strengths.

I review all my blitz games with Fritz, going through the moves with infinite analysis on. It helps me find my mistakes, and also evaluate stronger choices in the openings.

That being said, I don't really care about my blitz rating. I use blitz as a training tool.
